     PAINTINGS

When asked to describe my paintings in a word, I say "Surrealist." I love creating images that invite the audience to examine them more closely and interpret the meanings for themselves. My paintings usually include elements of iconography, nature, and human activity, but are subject to interpretation, which is what I intend. I sometimes paint semi-realist scenes, and have completed many as commissions. When I have no planned work in mind, but feel the urge to paint, I paint abstracts to express myself.  Regardless of genre, my paintings typically include highly saturated colors, attention to composition, and a sense of depth.

I take pride in producing a durable, collectable painting. I paint in acrylic, which can be a difficult medium because it dries quickly.  I prefer it not only because it offers very intense colors, but because its chemistry results in a more durable paint film.  I paint on three types of surfaces, all of which I prepare myself: masonite, canvas, and paper. Multiple layers of gesso provide an acid-free barrier that I sand to the perfect texture for paint adhesion.  When the painting is finished, I apply multiple coats of acrylic UV varnish that will help protect the paint against light.  This guarantees a painting that will endure far beyond the expectations of a typical oil painting on canvas.
